  1. Hi Joe – JAG’s brother James Ballou was not stillborn. He was born on October 31, 1826 and died, in Eliza’s lap and arms, on January 28, 1829. Also, the original Garfields in America came from Britain and settled in Watertown, MA. Eliza’s family, the Ballous, were the French Huguegenots. My comments are just meant to be helpful.
